Your Voice is Making a
Difference
By Linda
Ratliff / Chair of MTSA / TIC
The Transition
Issues Committee (TIC) was created in the 2005-2006 year by Michigan
Transition Services Association in response to concerns and in an
effort to respond to the needs of our membership. During the
2005-2006 year TIC developed it’s mission, vision and values. We
also set forth in developing a way to tap the voice of our
membership. This resulted in the initial TIC survey that went out to
our members in May 2006.
It is the intent of the MTSA TIC to continue to field surveys every
other month during the school year, to our membership. We hope to
publish the information on our website. We hope to utilize the data
that we collect in several ways. We would like to address the needs
of our membership by providing knowledge in different formats; such
as the survey, in our newsletter, on our website or at our annual
conference. We will use the data to help drive decision-making at
the Association level, and also hopefully at the State level.
Currently the MTSA TIC has identified a list of important Transition
Issues. The list was generated with input from our membership on our
May 2005 Survey. The three top Transition Issues currently
identified are: 1) Age Appropriate Transition Assessment,
2) Measurable Post-Secondary Goals, and 3)
High School Reform. Our September 2006 survey will be gathering
information on the first issue, “age appropriate transition
assessment”. Watch our website for information regarding TIC and the
survey results.
The MTSA TIC has challenges ahead in terms of setting up a workable
system for analyzing, storing, using and accessing the data that
results. All regional representatives from MTSA are members of TIC
so our intent is to respond to the potentially differing needs of
our members in the varying regions. It is your voice that will be
heard and responded to so you can better assist the students you
work with to realize their vision.
If you would like
to become involved with the MTSA TIC committee please contact chair
